Comparative advantages
UFRJ - Universidade Féderal do Rio de Janeiro
The participating unit at the Polytechnic School coordinates a combined interdisciplinary effort from several university departments / faculties contributing to the targets of the AURORA project, the staff particularly having a professional background in Architecture and Urban Planning, Urban Design, Infrastructure Planning, Design and Construction, as well as Cartography / GIS.
The major development and research projects are all related to the sustainable development of rapidly developing and changing urban and regional areas (mostly in the agglomeration area of RJ) carried out together with Public Authorities, NGOs, companies and international partners, in particular a success story of sustainable urban development projects can be shown with TFH Berlin since the mid 90s.
Besides the strong experience in the key area of the project, UFRJ provides a remarkable comparative knowledge of the European and Latin American urban planning systems and approaches, its practical shortcomings and strengths, and so is best suited to support the AURORA transferability strategies of practical and / or legal procedures within the network.
