Workshops

The AURORA network will run one international workshop-seminars on practically relevant issues of Sustainable Urban Development, i.e. questions of urgent needs requiring qualified theoretical and practical expert solutions. These workshops will be held at alternating locations in Latin America with one week duration addressing students, junior and senior academic staff of the universities but also professional experts from private and public institutions outside the university. The workshop will give participants the unique opportunity to follow seminars held by international experts from all AUROA network partners and jointly develop scenarios and strategies for a better sustainable development of urban agglomerations.

  • Year 1: Workshop on “Modern Urban Planning Procedures and Civil Participation” to be held at UFRJ in Rio de Janeiro.
  • Year 2: Workshop on “The Contemporary and Historic Public City – Design and Concepts for Public Urban Spaces” to be held at PUCC in Santiago de Chile.
  • Year 3: Workshop on “Reconstruction and Planning of Deteriorated Inner City Areas” to be held at CUJAE in Havana.

There will be an intensive flow of visiting professors from all partners to contribute actively to these workshop-seminars as provided by the ALFA guidelines for teaching staff assignments: Two outstanding experts will contribute from European partners, and a minimum of one from each Latin American partner. Besides teaching, the visiting professors also have a key role to strengthen the bias on the transfer of expert knowledge (disseminating by teaching and extending know-how) and to facilitate a critical improvement of the network strategy to create a powerful international center of excellence in Architecture and Urban Planning.

Moreover, Latin American visiting professors shall be given the possibility to contribute to the study programs of European partners to add their respective views and concepts to the existing curricula.
